This has been a big year! I moved back home and got a house built on my family farm where I have been planning to move for 15 years. There was a lot of cleaning up and moving happening this spring and summer and I am looking forward to finally having some permanence on this farm. Part of that is finally planting some permanent flower beds around the house and in the field. With everything finally cleaned up and no more construction I have started laying down compost and cardboard to plant my flower beds. This is a good time to do it while the rest of the garden work is slowing down. I am also hoping to get some perennial herbs and flowers planted out in the main fields. Since my space is divided into plots I am thinking that I will plant the outermost beds, beside my grassy paths into perennial herbs and flowers. Since I have so many around the farm it will make a beautiful refuge for pollinators and predator insects to live. My old boss had done this on her farm and it was lovely. We all enjoyed the flowers and her daughter loved harvesting and eating the fruits she planted there as well. I want to incorporate more flowers into my crop plan next year. They will provide food for pollinators and joy for me!
