Getting Ready for Winter

The fall always presents an interesting dichotomy. With only two more weeks of market, I am looking forward to slowing down a little. The markets make it difficult for me to stick to a consistent work and sleep schedule, as everything else revolves around them. While I look forward to the return to a routine, I will miss the camaraderie, being out in the community, and the excitement of a market day. The fall also provides the most selection in terms of product.

My tomatoes, zucchini, and cucumbers have slowed down significantly, but will still be available for another week or so. The greens, radishes, turnips, bok choi, and squash are plentiful right now! Plus I am really optimistic about my spinach crop for the next two weeks. Now is a great time to order a wholesale bag if you want to freeze some for over winter (the same can be done with the baby kale!)

Today I start teaching piano at Van Goozen Music. Part of my plan for moving home was to facilitate teaching piano. It is something I have wanted to do for years. However, it will impact my farm stand hours, that is why I will only be open Friday and Saturday for the next two weeks.

After the markets are done for the year, I am hoping to be open on Friday and Saturday for order pick up and plan my harvest around those days. In the meantime, keep enjoying the beautiful fall weather and bounty at the markets!
